Hello, my name is Simone Mason, a warm welcome to ‘dispensing digest,’ a personal blog written by a 40+ working myopic mum to 2 boys aged 16 and 12. I am a self-employed registered dispensing optician. I work part-time as a dispensing optician in practice and I joined my local optical committee (LOC) in January 2016 and have become involved in the local minor eye conditions services (MECS).
The idea of starting a blog, came about from an in-house joke, that I’ve always got my nose into a book, but it’s rarely a good novel, it’s usually one of the optical magazines!
With this slightly bizarre hobby – it seemed like a good idea, to share useful pieces of information, I might pick up from here, there and everywhere but also, to review various products of interest to other dispensing opticians, optical staff and perhaps the public. (I don’t really know who will read my blog yet but it’s bound to start with friends and family, so the idea is they will learn something interesting!).
So, I hope to provide regular blogs on eye health, frame trends, new spectacle lenses, sports eyewear, marketing, minor eye conditions services (MECS), National Eyecare Health Week and these are just for starters.
